Your First Visit to HoopLife: Exactly What Happens
Walking into a new gym with your kid is its own small ordeal. Here is the whole first visit, minute by minute, so nothing is a surprise.

- The $10 Get Started package is a planning meeting with a Director plus a first coached session.
- Arrive ten minutes early, check in at the front desk, and bring indoor shoes and a water bottle.
- You leave with an honest read on where your kid is at and what to work on next.
- Nobody sells you a membership on day one, and the right answer is sometimes not us.
Every family's first contact with a new sports program carries the same quiet worries. Will my kid be the worst one there? Will someone pressure me into a contract? Will anyone actually pay attention to them? Here is the entire first visit, laid out, so you can answer all three before you arrive.
Before you come
Book the $10 Get Started package. It is two things: a planning meeting with a HoopLife Director, and your kid's first coached session. Ten dollars, and it exists precisely so you do not have to buy a membership to find out whether this fits.
Pack four things: indoor non-marking court shoes, athletic clothes, a water bottle, and a basketball if you own one, though there are spares in the building. Arrive about ten minutes early and check in at the front desk.
The building
The HoopLife Centre is at 661 Solomon Cres in Regina: a purpose-built basketball facility with a full-size regulation hardwood court, six adjustable hoops, shot clocks and a proper scoreboard. There is a lobby and a lounge where parents can watch, or you can drop off and come back. Both are normal and nobody minds which you pick.
Expect noise, music and a lot of kids moving. The building runs sessions, camps and league nights most days of the week, and the energy is the point.
The planning meeting
A Director sits down with you and asks about your kid: age, experience, what they want, what you want, what nights work. This is the part most gyms skip, and it is the reason the Get Started exists. Placement decides everything — a beginner dropped into an advanced room has a bad month, and a strong kid parked with beginners is bored by week two.
Say the awkward things here. Shy kid, bad experience elsewhere, budget limits, unsure whether they even like basketball. The meeting is where those get solved, and none of them are new to us.
The session
Then your kid trains, in a real session with a real coach, grouped by age and level. Weekly skills sessions are capped at 8 players per level, so within the hour the coach has seen your kid properly: their handle, their shot, their confidence, how they take instruction.
For the parent watching: do not judge the hour by whether your kid looks happy every minute. First sessions have wobbles. Judge it by the last ten minutes, and by the question they answer in the car, which is whether they want to come back.
What you leave with
An honest read: where your kid is at, which room fits them, and what to work on next. Sometimes the recommendation is weekly sessions. Sometimes it is a league season first, or Young Stars for the youngest, or Girls Only for a girl who would rather start in that room.
And sometimes it is not us. If what your kid actually needs is a competitive club team or simply free play at the park, we will say that, because a family sold the wrong thing quits by November and tells other people about it.
What does not happen
Nobody pressures you into a membership in the lobby. The whole design of the $10 package is that the decision comes after the information, not before. Take the read home, talk to your kid, and book what fits when you are ready. The formats and prices are all laid out here if you want to compare from the couch.
Frequently asked questions
What is the HoopLife Get Started package?
A $10 package with two parts: a planning meeting with a HoopLife Director, and your kid's first coached session. It exists so families can find the right fit before buying anything bigger.

Indoor non-marking court shoes, athletic clothes, a water bottle, and a basketball if you own one. Arrive about ten minutes early and check in at the front desk.
Can parents watch the session?
