Can Community Clinics Run Quarterly, Not Just Once?

A coordinator's honest guide to whether a HoopLife basketball clinic can come back to the same community more than once a year.

A HoopLife travel clinic underway in a community gym with players spread across the floor
The short version
  • A HoopLife clinic runs two full days of skill work, games, fitness circuits and character sessions.
  • There is no hard cap on participants; HoopLife scales the coaching team to the community.
  • Communities can bring HoopLife back for repeat visits, and popular return dates get booked up, so raise it early.
  • Every clinic, first visit or repeat, is quoted individually based on distance, days and coach count.
  • A coordinator only needs to provide a working gym and one local point of contact; HoopLife brings the rest.

Yes, a HoopLife clinic can come back to the same community more than once. There is nothing in how HoopLife runs these that limits a community to a single visit, and coordinators who book a return trip usually do it because the first one worked. The details of a repeat visit, timing, size and cost, still get worked out one-on-one, the same way the first visit did.

This question comes up a lot from band offices, schools and rec departments that already hosted a HoopLife weekend and saw what it did for their kids. The natural next question is whether that was a one-off or the start of something. It can be either, depending on what the community wants.

What a HoopLife clinic weekend actually includes

A standard HoopLife clinic is two full days in your gym. Each day mixes real skill work, shooting, ball handling, finishing, defending, with games and scrimmages so kids use what they just learned right away, plus fitness circuits and HoopLife's Confidence, Leadership and Basketball IQ sessions. It is built to not be two days of drills in lines. Kids are moving, playing and being coached by name the whole time.

The two days run on HoopLife's written coaching library, the same system behind everything the organization runs at its Regina facility, where it coaches hundreds of players a week. Every drill is diagrammed, every coach is trained on the same playbook, and the printed booklet every child keeps at the end comes from that same material. A senior coach leads the trip and runs point with your coordinator on the ground, backed by a team sized to your group.

There is no hard cap on how many kids can take part. HoopLife scales the clinic to the community rather than asking the community to fit the clinic. What helps is knowing roughly how many kids to expect in advance, since that tells the team how many coaches to bring and how many booklets to print. Kids do not need to already play. A good share at any clinic have never had real coaching before, and those are often the ones the two days change the most.

Can a community bring HoopLife back for a second, third or fourth visit?

There is no rule against it. HoopLife quotes every visit individually because the honest cost of a clinic depends on where you are: driving distance, whether the team stays overnight, whether they fly in, how many days you want, and how many coaches the group needs. A same-day drive from Regina and a fly-in to a northern community are not the same trip, and a second or third visit gets quoted the same honest way the first one did.

What communities who bring HoopLife back tend to have in common is that the first visit landed. Kids kept asking when the next one was coming. That is worth being direct about: spots and coach availability for return visits are not unlimited, and communities that want a recurring relationship with HoopLife should raise it early rather than assume a date will always be open. It is popular, and communities that wait too long to ask often find the calendar tighter than they expected.

What a coordinator actually needs to arrange

The list is short. A gym with working hoops, and someone local who is the point of contact for the two days. That is genuinely it. HoopLife brings the coaching team, the curriculum, and printed character development and training booklets for every child. If your floor is short, your hoops do not lower, or you are working out of a community hall instead of a full gym, say so when you request an estimate. HoopLife has run clinics in all kinds of spaces and will build the visit around what you actually have, not turn you away over it.

Coordinators booking a repeat visit should still tell HoopLife the age spread they expect, since kids are grouped by age and ability on the day, and that grouping is what keeps a beginner from being stuck behind a kid who has played for years. For communities weighing their first visit against a second one, the step-by-step breakdown of what happens over the two days is worth reading before you request dates, so your staff and families know what to expect from the schedule itself.

What it costs, and how to start the conversation

HoopLife does not publish a flat price for a clinic, first visit or repeat, because the real number depends on your specific trip. The way to get an honest answer is to request an estimate and get a written quote back with every line itemized. That applies whether this is your community's first clinic or its fourth.

If your community is a First Nation, the place to start is the First Nations basketball and character development clinic page, which lays out what the two days include and lets you request dates directly. If you are a town, city or school rec department, the Bring HoopLife to You page is the right door in, whether this is a first booking or a return one.

  • A HoopLife clinic is two full days: skill work, games, fitness circuits and the Confidence, Leadership and Basketball IQ sessions.
  • There is no cap on how many kids can attend; HoopLife sizes the coaching team to your community.
  • Return visits are possible and common for communities where the first clinic landed with the kids.
  • Every clinic, first or repeat, is quoted individually based on distance, days and coach count.
  • A community only needs to provide a gym with working hoops and one local point of contact.

Frequently asked questions

Can our community book HoopLife for more than one clinic a year?

Yes. There is no rule limiting a community to a single visit, and HoopLife will quote a return trip the same honest way it quoted the first one, based on distance, days and coaches needed. Communities that saw real results from a first clinic often ask about bringing HoopLife back, and that is a normal conversation to have.

Is there a limit on how many kids can join a HoopLife clinic?

No. HoopLife does not put a hard cap on participants and instead scales the clinic, and the number of coaches it brings, to the size of the group you actually have. What helps is giving a rough headcount in advance so the team can plan coaches and printed booklets correctly.

Does a community need to already have an organized basketball program to book a clinic?

No. Most kids at any given HoopLife clinic have never had real coaching before, and those are often the ones who change the most over the two days. Kids are grouped by age and ability on the day itself, so beginners and experienced players both get coaching that fits them.

How far ahead should a coordinator request a repeat clinic?

There is no fixed cut-off, but return visits are genuinely popular with communities that already hosted HoopLife once, and coach availability for those trips does fill. The practical answer is to raise a repeat booking as soon as your community knows it wants one, rather than waiting until close to when you want the team back.

The coaches are outstanding. They are knowledgeable, patient, and truly care about each child's development. They take the time to break down skills, encourage effort, and build confidence in every player... The training sessions are well organized and very effective... You can really see the improvement in skills, teamwork, and overall understanding of the game after just a few sessions... We are extremely happy with our experience and would highly recommend HoopLife Basketball Training to any family looking for a high-quality program where kids can learn, grow, and truly enjoy the game.

We signed up our 8-year-old son for the 3-month membership and have really enjoyed our experience. Logistically, I like that all the sessions are laid out in advance, so you can choose what works best for your schedule. It was a great experience for our son to have different coaches and play with different kids regularly. He really enjoyed the coaches! They were friendly, knowledgeable and really helped him to improve his skills. The facility itself is fantastic, and we're glad we gave this a shot!

…Our son, Keith, not just loves the sport, but he also loves the coaches. We feel very welcome and “at home”, there. They're very friendly to everyone. Also, the skills that they're teaching our son are very helpful for his development. Our son hopes to get accepted in a basketball club while training with HoopLife.
