- Summer camps run five days from 9:00 to 3:00, capped at 32 players and grouped by age
This week HoopLife ran a girls basketball camp in partnership with Unshakeable Sports Ministry. The girls spent the week on the court working on their game and in the classroom learning about faith and how to build confidence rooted in Jesus.
It was a different shape than our regular summer camps. Same drills, same coaching, same focus on fundamentals. But with added time each day for the girls to talk about where real confidence comes from and how faith shapes the way they show up on the court and off it.
Why This Partnership Matters
Basketball teaches a lot. How to work hard. How to handle failure. How to compete and how to encourage your teammates. But there are questions the game alone does not answer. Questions about identity. About what happens when you miss the shot or lose the game. About where you find your worth when the scoreboard does not go your way.
Unshakeable Sports Ministry comes alongside the basketball work to help young athletes build a foundation that goes deeper than the game. The focus is on confidence that is not dependent on performance. Confidence rooted in faith, not just in what you can do on a given day.
For the girls at camp this week, that meant time on the court and time in conversation. They worked on their handles and their footwork. They also talked about what it means to develop unshakeable character anchored in Jesus Christ when things get hard.
What Happens at a HoopLife Summer Camp
Our summer camps run five days, from 9:00 to 3:00. They are capped at 32 players and grouped by age. Every day includes skill work, game situations, and competition. Campers get a lot of touches and a lot of coaching.
This week followed that same structure. The difference was the addition of the Unshakeable curriculum. Each day included a session where the girls stepped off the court to talk about faith, confidence, and how the two connect. It was not a replacement for basketball training. It was an addition to it.
The girls still got the full camp experience. Drills. Scrimmages. Coaching feedback. Water breaks where everyone collapses on the baseline. But they also got something extra. A framework for thinking about who they are and how they compete.
Faith and Competition
Some people think faith and competition do not mix. That if you care about winning, you are not focused on the right things. That is not how we see it, and it is not how Unshakeable sees it either.
Competition is good. It pushes you to get better. It teaches you how to handle pressure and how to respond when things do not go your way. Faith does not take that away. It gives you a foundation under it. A reason to compete that is bigger than your own ego. A source of confidence that does not disappear when you have a bad game.
The girls this week learned to play hard and to root their confidence in something that does not change based on the score. That is a rare combination, and it is worth building.
What Comes Next
Unshakeable is HoopLife's own ongoing faith-based programming, co-run with Unshakeable Sports Ministry. We run camps through the year including Easter and summer. The mission is to empower youth through sports to develop unshakeable character anchored in Jesus Christ, helping them overcome negative influences, cultural pressures, and worldly values.
If your daughter missed this camp, there are other ways to get her on the court. Our Girls Only sessions run year-round for ages 7 to 13. They are capped at 16 players and coached by women. The focus is skill development in an environment built for girls to compete and encourage each other.
We also run co-ed training sessions, leagues, and camps throughout the year. If you are not sure where to start, the Get Started package is a planning meeting with a HoopLife Director plus a first coached session. It is a low-pressure way to figure out what fits.
Our regular weekly sessions are not faith-based, but Unshakeable programming runs through the year. Partnership matters to us. When there is a chance to work with an organization that shares our values and adds something meaningful to what we do, we take it. This week was one of those chances.
Building Something That Lasts
Basketball is temporary. Your playing career ends eventually. The skills you build, the confidence you develop, the way you learn to show up when things are hard, those things last.
This week the girls at camp got both. They got better at basketball. They also got a framework for thinking about confidence that will outlast any game they play.
That is what good coaching looks like. Not just teaching the game, but helping young athletes build something underneath it. Something that holds when the pressure comes and the outcome is uncertain.
We are grateful to Unshakeable Sports Ministry for the partnership and for the work they do with young athletes. And we are proud of the girls who showed up this week ready to work and ready to learn.
