Most adult basketball in this city is a group chat that occasionally turns into a run. This is the version with a schedule, a scoreboard and somebody else organising it.
What it is
The HoopLife Adult Co-Ed 3x3 League, at the HoopLife Centre:
- Who: ages 16 and up, co-ed, every level.
- When: Sunday evenings, ten weeks, four seasons a year.
- Format: 3x3, two 20-minute halves, running time, music the whole way through.
- Cost: $600 for a team, or $150 to sign up on your own.
- Size: eight teams a season.
Why 3x3 for adults
Three a side is the format that respects an adult schedule and an adult body. You are in every possession, the game is short and sharp, and there is no standing in a corner for twenty minutes waiting for a touch.
Running time means the night ends when it says it will, which matters more at thirty-five than it did at fifteen.
Coming on your own
Signing up as a free agent for $150 is normal here, not a fallback. We place free agents on teams, and a decent share of every season is people who arrived not knowing anybody.
If you have a team but you are a player or two short, say so when you register and we will fill the gaps.
What kind of basketball is it?
Rec, honestly rec. Range runs from people who played high school ball to people who have not played since. Nobody is scouting. The point is a good run on a real floor: full-size regulation hardwood, six hoops, shot clocks and a proper scoreboard, rather than a school gym with a bent rim.
The rest of the week
Adults are welcome at open gym too — $10 to drop in, free with any membership, every week of the year. It is the easiest way to keep the legs going between Sundays.
And if the reason you are looking is that your kids play here: the youth league runs three 10-week seasons a year, and plenty of families end up with a parent playing Sunday nights and a kid playing midweek.
