Joining a Rec Basketball League as an Adult (Even If You Haven't Played in Years)
The hardest part of adult basketball is not fitness — it is walking back into a gym after years away. Here is what that actually looks like on a Sunday night at HoopLife.

- You do not need a team: $150 signs you up solo and we place you.
- 3x3 with running time is the format adult bodies and adult schedules can actually keep.
- The range runs from former high school players to people back after a decade off.
- Every 3x3 team is capped at 6 players, and the eight team spots a season sell out.
Somewhere between graduation and now, basketball quietly fell out of your week. The group chat run died, the school gym got a new keypad, and "I should play again" became something you say instead of something you do.
This is the fix, and it does not require finding nine friends.
What coming back actually looks like
The HoopLife Adult Co-Ed 3x3 League runs Sunday evenings at the HoopLife Centre: ten weeks, ten games, four seasons a year. Two 20-minute halves with running time and music the whole way through, on a full regulation hardwood court — not a school gym with a bent rim.
3x3 matters more than it sounds. You touch the ball every possession, you are never sprinting the full 94 feet, and the night ends when it says it will. It is the version of basketball an adult body and an adult calendar can commit to.
"But I don't have a team"
Neither does a good share of every season. $150 signs you up as a free agent and we place you on a team — that is a normal way in here, not a fallback. Have most of a team? $600 covers the season for the roster, every 3x3 team is capped at 6 players, and if you are a player short we will fill the gap.
"But I'm rusty"
The league range genuinely runs from people who played high school and college ball to people playing their first organised game in fifteen years. It is rec, honestly rec: nobody is scouting, and the standings matter less than the run. If you want to knock the rust off first, open gym is $10 to drop in, every week of the year.
The part nobody tells you
Adults need scheduled sport for the same reason kids do. A standing Sunday game gets you moving, hands you a locker-room's worth of new people, and gives the week a fixed point that is yours. Eight teams a season, and they sell out — the roster you want to be on fills before the season starts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I join a basketball league in Regina without a team?
Yes. HoopLife's adult co-ed 3x3 league takes free agents at $150 and places you on a team. A good share of every season signs up solo.
How fit do I need to be?
3x3 with running time is far more forgiving than full-court 5v5. People come back after years away all the time; the first two Sundays are the hard ones.
When and where does it run?
Sunday evenings at the HoopLife Centre, 661 Solomon Cres, Regina. Ten weeks, ten games, four seasons a year.
How big are the teams?
Every 3x3 team is capped at 6 players, so everyone actually plays. Eight teams make a season, and they sell out.
