We Are Growing Our Winnipeg Coaching Roster

HoopLife runs basketball clinics in communities across Canada, and a lot of them are nowhere near a major airport. Where our coaches live changes which communities we can reach, how quickly, and at what cost.

Winnipeg is one of the places we most want more coaches based right now.

Why Winnipeg specifically

Manitoba and northwestern Ontario are full of communities that want a proper basketball clinic and rarely get one. A coach flying from Regina to reach them burns a day and a flight. A coach already in Winnipeg does not.

That is the whole reason this is a location-specific ask rather than a general one. We are not short of people who want to coach. We are short of people who want to coach and already live within reach of the communities asking for us.

The role

You travel out for a clinic, usually over a weekend. You run roughly 6 to 12 hours of coaching for kids aged 7 to 17, from children who have never played to the best player in the region. You set the gym up, you run it, you tear it down, you go home.

$20 to $35 an hour plus bonuses, and HoopLife covers travel, flights and living expenses. You are never fronting airfare.

Hours are genuinely flexible, from around 10 a week up to 40-plus. Some of our travel coaches do one clinic every couple of months around a full-time job. Some are out most weekends. You tell us which you are.

You do not have to live in the city itself

Brandon, Steinbach, Selkirk, Portage, anywhere in that radius works. If you can get yourself to a departure point, you are in range. The same is true elsewhere in the country: we would rather have a great coach in a smaller centre than an average one downtown.

What we are looking for

Real experience with the game, whether that is university, high school, club or simply never having stopped playing. The ability to hold a gym full of eleven-year-olds. Enough fitness to be on the floor for six hours and still be good company at hour six. And genuinely liking kids, which is not something we can teach.

You need to be a Canadian or American citizen, because clinics cross the border.

What the weekend is actually like

Early travel, long days, a gym you have never seen before, and you are the entire show. It is real work.

It is also the part of this job people talk about years later. You spend two days somewhere you would never otherwise go, with kids who will remember your name, and then you fly home. This is what one of those weekends looks like from the community's side.
